Tunde and Lerato reviewing a customer message at their laundry shop counter

This series follows Tunde and Lerato, two fictional founders building a laundry business in Johannesburg. Their decisions will help us examine what it takes to build a brand people recognise, choose, and trust.

At 7:12 on Friday morning, Lerato's phone lit up.

Where are my shirts? My meeting starts at nine.

She looked at the message, then at the delivery schedule.

The customer's clothes were still at the shop.

Outside, the business's new sign read:

LOOK SHARP. WITHOUT THE STRESS.

Lerato called Tunde.

We have a problem.

Is the driver late?

The driver is late. But that is not the whole problem.

Tunde was already opening his laptop. He had been working on a new advert for their laundry business.

He wanted better photographs. A stronger headline. Something that would make the business look more premium.

Lerato sent him a screenshot of the customer's message.

“We told this man he would not have to worry about his clothes,” she said. “Now he is worrying about his clothes.”

The shirts would eventually arrive clean.

The meeting would already have started.

And that is where this episode begins.

Because a brand promise becomes very clear the moment a customer needs you to keep it.
